What to do in Loano when it rains

In a previous article we showed you what to see in Loano, in an itinerary to discover the beauties of our town between the historic center, the numerous fountains, the castle and the Marina. But weather forecasts – very variable in Liguria especially in this period – do not always allow you to take long walks outdoors. For this we suggest you some alternative activities perfect for the coldest season and for rainy days such as visiting the provincial museums or a relaxing break in the Wellness Spa of our Hotel and Residence Ai Pozzi Village.

The museums of Loano and beyond

During the summer the sea is the main attraction and we often forget that our territory has much more to offer, even from a historical and cultural point of view; let’s discover together what are the small and little-known museums of Loano and its surroundings that are worth visiting.

Museum of the Sea and of the maritime area of the Kursaal Palace

The Sea Museum opened fifteen years ago is a “little treasure”, as some of its visitors call it. Thanks to models, photographs of bathers, old documents and curious objects related to the world of navigation, we can retrace the history – between the 1800s and the 1900s – of the deep bond between the city of Loano and the sea, which was fundamental for the development of the Ligurian economy, market and tourism.

The Sea Museum is located in Corso Roma 9 in Loano and in this season it is possible to book a visit by calling 3388872754.

Ethnographic Museum of Val Varatella in Toirano

The town of Toirano is undoubtedly famous for the caves of the same name, but less known is the ethnographic museum which is located nearby, set up since 1997 in the Palazzo D’Aste – Del Carretto. The current collections and collections preserved in it are the result of spontaneous donations from the local population that has strongly wanted to preserve tangible traces of their past.

The museum is divided into two sectors: in the first one are exhibited tools and utensils, once tools of the trade of farmers and artisans, which allow to trace the evolution of the methods of cultivation, of breeding and of all the sustenance activities of the past centuries . There is also a section dedicated to the reconstruction of domestic environments and a collection of original photographs dating back to the period between the end of the 1800s and the beginning of the 1900s.

The second sector is dedicated to the history of the palace that houses the museum, first owned by the counts D’Aste, then passed into the hands of the Del Carretto di Balestrino marquises; here too, some rooms of the noble residence have been reconstructed as they were likely to be in the 16th century.

The ethnographic museum is located in Via Giuseppe Polla in Toirano, about 6 km from Loano.

Giovanni Battista Bergallo tower clock museum in Bardino Nuovo

This museum is located in the Giuseppe Folco square in Bardino Nuovo, in the municipality of Tovo San Giacomo, 10 km from Loano. Inside are displayed all the clocks for towers and bell towers designed and built by the Bergallo family between 1860 and 1980. An interesting discovery for enthusiasts and more.
